Incredibly Exciting New Challenge!!

Anya has created the fifteenth Zentangle challenge in German (don’t worry – she gives an English translation too 🙂 ) Anya has now translated her title into English and has a quick link right under the title to the English.

I hope Anya doesn’t mind that I have quoted her extensively!!! I think this is a fabulous challenge and I want to share enough so you can see this is very doable and will be great fun to join in. To make it VERY clear – below is a very long quote from Anya – these are not my own words at all.

Fungees Eddyper Challenge

Each month the Anya puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. February 2016 is the fifteenth challenge from Anya and Pattern Mixer!! This month is Pattern Mixer Challenge #15. So here is what Anya says this month: “How have the first few weeks of 2016 been for you? Have you had any snow where you are? We’ve hardly had any this winter. But then, when it’s icky and rainy out there’s all the more time for comfy tangling with a cup of hot chocolate. :-)
Anyhow, I’ve picked something quite difficult for you this month, but I’m sure you can do it! Don’t give up!!

This month’s patterns are:

ATTENTION, please! While all tiles submitted in the last months were stunningly beautiful, there seems to have been some confusion about pattern mixing. Just drawing two patterns next to each other on a tile is called a Duo Tangle (and it can definitely be worth your while), but when we mix patterns, we go one step further. Pattern mixing means to merge two tangles, to intertwine them or even create a new tangle from the combination. I’ve drawn up a few examples for you here. Mixing patterns is not easy and you might even want to collect a few ideas or do a few sketches first. But it’s a real booster to yor creativity and it’s – well, a challenge!”

How do I mix the patterns?

Generally speaking, there are three basic ways of combining patterns and you should choose at least one of them for your tile.

  1. Tangle in a tangle: You draw your first pattern a bit larger than you normally would and fill the empty spaces in your pattern with another tangle. Example

  2. Combining elements: You take elements from one pattern and integrate them into the other tangle, thus creating a new pattern. Example

  3. Merging: You make smooth transitions from one tangle pattern to the next, sort of letting one pattern melt into the next one. Like this.

So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) Combining Elements Fungees and Eddyper done by me.

Combining Elements Challenge

I had to think and think about how to do this.  And it must be option #2 Combining Elements because it is not Tangle in a Tangle (I don’t think) or Merging!! This was quite fun once I set a direction!! 🙂

Zentangle has become popular the last several years and I have been putting my attention to it. I put my name with a © more prominently to protect my work. Things are progressing on the inside work!! I love this challenge – Anya is so very creative!!! So above is my Pattern Mixer Combining Elements Fungees Eddyper Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected! Thank you to everyone who made comments on my posts these last weeks. That means a lot to me!! I got lost in trying to keep up with posts … so this is late 🙂

Which Tangle is Which?

Fungees are the trumpets and Eddyper are the curled scrolls coming out of them.  🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂

Here in Germany we begin the new year with lots and lots of fireworks, so I’ve selected two patterns that remind me of fireworks.

Which Tangle is Which?

Afterglo is the stars with the connecting lines.  AHH is the loose radiating lines with bubbles on the ends and also the floating bubbles.  🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂

Which Tangle is Which?

Leef Chainz is the leaves with stripes on half the leaves.  Also large berries nest in Leef Chainz. Loops ‘n Leaves is curls with plain leaves coming out – all with lots of bubbles.  🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂

Narwal is the seashell – a curly one.  But these shells have a lot of breaks in them so that is where Nzeppel comes.  Nzeppel is the net and then some blobs filled in in some places.   🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂

Tropicana is the arches between double lines. Ixorus is the pads of white on either side of a line with auras around it.  (Zentangle calls halos auras :)  ) There you have it!! 🙂

Incredibly Exciting New Challenge!!

Anya has created the eleventh Zentangle challenge in German (don’t worry – she gives an English translation too 🙂 ) Anya has now translated her title into English and has a quick link right under the title to the English.

Facade Crescent Moon Challenge

Each month the Anya puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. October 2015 is the eleventh challenge from Anya and Pattern Mixer!! This month is Pattern Mixer Challenge #11. So here is what Anya says this month: “This month I’ve selected two patterns that made for quite a geometric tile for me. So I’m waiting to see if anyone can get something warmer and more flowery. Surprise me!!

ATTENTION, please! While all tiles submitted in the last months were stunningly beautiful, there seems to have been some confusion about pattern mixing. Just drawing two patterns next to each other on a tile is called a Duo Tangle (and it can definitely be worth your while), but when we mix patterns, we go one step further. Pattern mixing means to merge two tangles, to intertwine them or even create a new tangle from the combination. I’ve drawn up a few examples for you here. Mixing patterns is not easy and you might even want to collect a few ideas or do a few sketches first. But it’s a real booster to yor creativity and it’s – well, a challenge!”

How do I mix the patterns?

Generally speaking, there are three basic ways of combining patterns and you should choose at least one of them for your tile.

  1. Tangle in a tangle: You draw your first pattern a bit larger than you normally would and fill the empty spaces in your pattern with another tangle. Example

  2. Combining elements: You take elements from one pattern and integrate them into the other tangle, thus creating a new pattern. Example

  3. Merging: You make smooth transitions from one tangle pattern to the next, sort of letting one pattern melt into the next one. Like this.

Which Tangle is Which?

Facade is the lines weaving with circles underneath and Crescent Moon is the circles with auras around them (that is what people call the parallel lines around shapes).  They are quite intertwined. There you have it!! 🙂

So I thought this week we might use it for the Pattern-Mixer – along with another easy but versatile pattern that I like to use in my classes. Zentangle Enticed Me

Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. Spring is here with a lot of repairs from the winter. We just found mold under a bookcase we had to put together. Bookshelves got thrown out and now we need to find someone to deal with replacing some unfinished floor boards. Fingers crossed! I love this challenge – Anya is so very creative!!! So above is my Pattern Mixer Combining Elements Cat-Kin Jax Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected! Which Tangle is Which?

Cat-Kin is the pussy willows on a vine – so the little pods on the vine.  Jax is the marbles and jacks on a string.  So they shared the vine and string and created something new  🙂 :)  Whoops, I just noticed 2 of the Cat-Kin don’t have their jackets on .. I guess that is the mystery  :)  There you have it!! 🙂

So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) merging and tangling within a tangle using Luv-a and Ish done by me.

Merging and Tangling in a Tangle Challenge

This one was a big challenge for me … but I think I did it :)  :)  I ended up doing Option #2 – creating a new pattern I believe.  It was fun once I got my head wrapped around what I needed to do 🙂 I hope you like it!!  Well, as I look more, maybe it is sort of Option #3 – merging Luv-a Ish … I am just not sure 🙂

Which Tangle is Which?

Ish is the wide bar from the bottom left corner to the top right corner.  The single flowers in the bar and the little arches next to them are also Ish.  But this is where the pattern changes as Luv-a Ish.  Instead of the rest of Ish, Luv-s emerges from those arches and spills down (or up) from them if that makes sense 🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂
