Each week Carolien and I put out a challenge for folks to make their representation of our idea. This week is the Weekly Challenge #77: Tangle with E-R-#. So here is what we say this week “This week is Challenge #77, the Alphabet challenge of E-R-#. Use tangles starting with the letters E, R & # in your drawing. It’s your choice to only use patterns with these letters or to add some others as well. Happy Tangling!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with for your E, R & #.”  Thus this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) using tangles that start with the letters E, R & #.

Zentangle Enticed Me

Zentangle has become popular the last several years and so I have been intrigued and putting my attention to it.  So above is my Challenge ZIA. I decided to go with white on black. I had fun, do you?  So I am gaining back strength with my health – more but it is still slow!!  And thank you for your understanding during this time!!   🙂 🙂  Plumbing done!!  Now just in 2 sets of family crisis.  One involving someone over 100 (yes!!) and the other a young person.  🙂 This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected!!!

Which Tangle is Which?

Efeu is the vince across the top. Rabbit Foot Fern is the plant in the bottom middle. 133 winds its way around Rabbit Foot Fern.  🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Tangle Study-ING Challenge

Each week the Diva puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. This week is the Weekly Challenge #281: “Tangle study-ING”. So here is what the Diva says this week “When i was in Providence for CZT training #15 Molly introduced us to the tangle ING – you can see the step outs here … Have fun with this week’s challenge! Happy Tangl-ING.”  Thus this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art).

Zentangle Enticed Me

Zentangle has become popular the last several years and I have been intrigued and putting my attention to it.  I have been very sick the last 4 months – that is why I disappeared.  Been rough but hopefully I can move on and be healthy!!!   Thank you for your understanding if I didn’t return visits to our “Diane & Carolien’s Weekly Zentangle Challenge.”  But one I had to keep doing to keep the challenge going … So I hope all of you are well and have enjoyed your – either summer or winter!!

Since I started this, I sort of made a mess of the ING. Since the first one looked yucky, I made a 2nd (yucky) one. 🙂 So they are both messier than I like.  Because of this I put “stuff” inside of them.  But I like what the Diva says about always going with what she starts for the challenge.  Because of this, I decided to add other tangles.  So Coaster went on first.  Thus it started to look like Star Map anyway so I added Star Map. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Which Tangle is Which?

ING is the 2 folded paper airplanes on the right side.  Coaster is the roller coaster that is on the left side. Thus Star Map is the sky in the background with all the comets and stars   🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂

So here is what the Diva says this week “Here we are, the first Monday of the month so that means Use My Tangle (UMT) where we try our hand at one of tangles that you’ve created. This month’s tangle is called FASSETT and was created by Lynn Mead.  The step outs can be found here. Oh my gosh. I *LOVE* this tangle.  It’s so fun, and so beautiful – and it’s one of those tangles that looks complicated but is actually quite simple.” So these is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) using Fassett.

Zentangle has become popular the last several years and I have been intrigued and putting my attention to it. I put my name with a © more prominently to protect my work. I sort of made a mess in the beginning but got more comfortable with it.  I think I made my life harder doing the swoops on the first try.  It is messier than I like.  But I like what the Diva says about always going with what she starts for the challenge.  We are all sick here and things are … well … whatever … but here is my Fassett  🙂 🙂 Thank you to everyone who made comments on my posts these last weeks. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Incredibly Exciting New Challenge!!

Anya has created the fourteenth Zentangle challenge in German (don’t worry – she gives an English translation too 🙂 ) Anya has now translated her title into English and has a quick link right under the title to the English.

I hope Anya doesn’t mind that I have quoted her extensively!!! I think this is a fabulous challenge and I want to share enough so you can see this is very doable and will be great fun to join in. To make it VERY clear – below is a very long quote from Anya – these are not my own words at all.

Each month the Anya puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. January 2016 is the fourteenth challenge from Anya and Pattern Mixer!! This month is Pattern Mixer Challenge #14. So here is what Anya says this month: “Happy New Year to all of you! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with lots of good food and family and friends. We had a quiet but nice time. For the new year I wish for lots of time for creativity. And I hope you will have the same, too! So lets get started right away!

Here in Germany we begin the new year with lots and lots of fireworks, so I’ve selected two patterns that remind me of fireworks.

Today’s patterns are:

ATTENTION, please! While all tiles submitted in the last months were stunningly beautiful, there seems to have been some confusion about pattern mixing. Just drawing two patterns next to each other on a tile is called a Duo Tangle (and it can definitely be worth your while), but when we mix patterns, we go one step further. Pattern mixing means to merge two tangles, to intertwine them or even create a new tangle from the combination. I’ve drawn up a few examples for you here. Mixing patterns is not easy and you might even want to collect a few ideas or do a few sketches first. But it’s a real booster to yor creativity and it’s – well, a challenge!”

How do I mix the patterns?

Generally speaking, there are three basic ways of combining patterns and you should choose at least one of them for your tile.

  1. Tangle in a tangle: You draw your first pattern a bit larger than you normally would and fill the empty spaces in your pattern with another tangle. Example

  2. Combining elements: You take elements from one pattern and integrate them into the other tangle, thus creating a new pattern. Example

  3. Merging: You make smooth transitions from one tangle pattern to the next, sort of letting one pattern melt into the next one. Like this.

Combining Elements Challenge

I had to think and think about how to do this.  And it must be option #2 Combining Elements because it is not Tangle in a Tangle (I don’t think) or Merging!! This was quite fun once I set a direction!! 🙂

Afterglo is the stars with the connecting lines.  AHH is the loose radiating lines with bubbles on the ends and also the floating bubbles.  🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂

Each week Joey puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. This week is the joey’s weekly tangle challenge #98. So here is what Joey says this week, “Well the calendar may say that we are now starting the month of February, but I feel like I’m still somewhere back at the beginning of the New Year. Time speeds up every year, I’m sure of it! Now that we have finished our collection of musical tangles where to go from here? Do we launch into something new and daring or stick with the basics and keep life simple? I think this time I’m voting for simple! So your challenge for this Monday morning is to use the tangle Cayke You can use it with other tangles in a String, in a zendala, ZIA, etc. It’s entirely up to you. And if you are lucky enough to have a piece of cake nearby and want to nibble on that for “inspiration”, I certainly won’t stop you!”

Victoriasaws Flowers is the flowers at the bottom .. and also both the top right and left corners. Cayke is the banners underneath the flowers on the top right and left corners.   Concert is the 2 sets of pipes, more or less in the center.  Concert is wildly creative and flexible – I want to use it again and play more.   🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂

Each week the Diva puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. This week is the Weekly Challenge #253: “New Tangle: Molygon”. So here is what the Diva says this week  “This weekend Zentangle HQ released the newest tangle Molygon in the Zentangle Newsletter. … Molygon is a fun tangle to play with, and it’s got endless fill possibilities” So these is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) of the New Tangle: Molygon.

Zentangle has become popular the last several years and I have been intrigued and putting my attention to it. I put my name with a © more prominently to protect my work. This week is the Weekly Challenge #252: “String Theory: Tangle within a tangle… it’s like inception… but with tangles”. So here is what the Diva says this week “This week’s challenge is to use a tangle as your string. Any tangle you like, just biggify it to make it a string. Then? Tangle inside! i’ve really been feeling Flux lately, so i chose flux as my tangle/string. … My favourite one is the Flux in the Flux. Like Inception. 😉 ” So these is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) making a Tangle within a Tangle.
