Thumbnails for Illustration Friday

Thank you for all your wonderful comments on my Illustration Friday entry yesterday!! You Really Made My Day!! Beverly said she had an entry ready to go but got stuck on making the thumbnail for the challenge. Obviously I would love to see her entry and would love to see Bev enter this challenge!! So I am going to share how I make the thumbnail … in-Photoshop there are usually multiple ways to do things … here is the way I do it. It takes a lot longer to tell how to do it (and read about it) than it does to just do it .. so please give it a try! Please forgive the large files … I thought want to make sure you can see the details to be able to follow. Selection First, I am bet you know the selection tool … the tool that allows you to choose a part of your image … it is circled in red. Choose this tool. Fixed Aspect Set it to the fixed aspect ratio … highlighted in red … and set it to 1 to 1 ratio. This makes it so you will have a perfect square as you make your thumbnail. Now go ahead and choose some part of the image … whatever part you want to use as the thumbnail that people will see. Illustrator Friday is a fun challenge with many, many participants. The type of art is very wide ranging and I have run into a couple of children’s entries too. I like to enter the 2 Things Challenge each week. This week is Peanut and Plain. I was trying and trying to figure out what to do. I would say these are both more conceptual … to whatever degree they work (not sure they do). I would like to be able to create more conceptually – because I think the vision of seeing an idea is very important. I hope you like my entries. You can see the original image on her blog here. This is my entry … it is pretty simple but this is what I can do this time. I tried quite a few different things … but decided to go with Photoshop …. to filters … to artistic … to watercolor. I chose it because it is a flip in many ways of the original. Update: I had to add some color … you know me, so I used a KPT Lens Flare to bring in more light and color .. (my delights). I hope you enjoy this! Show, Entry and Footprint

Many of you know that I belong to WWAO (Worldwide Women Artists Online) which is an international organization of women artists who market our art for sale on the web. It is a very cool group and exciting to be with an international group like this. There is a new page up “Baby, It’s Cold Out There” (obviously, the people who were kind enough to set up this show are in the northern hemisphere) … Many months an artist will offer to put up a show that features one piece from any of the artists who want their work shown. I have a piece for the first time. It just went up tonight! Some of the art is gorgeous!!! Two Things Challenge – Home/Health

I like to enter the 2 Things Challenge each week. This week is Home and Health. I was trying and trying to figure out what to do. I was going to put some images on one of my bubblescapes .. like kitties … that was as far as I got. So I went looking for the right bubblescape to work with and this jumped out as me as home and health – hope you agree! I would like to be able to create more conceptually – so I am excited about this – because I think the vision of seeing an idea is very important. This is also called Evening Shelter. So thank you! When I have heard about such ideas of not being negative at all, I also get confused about how to use that kind of idea without losing my thinking and integrity. As many other women I have been taught to accept and not question. Taught to basically be a doormat. I have always questioned, but I have also wanted to stay respectful and hear other perspectives. (For those who might not understand that phrase, it means that it is moving very slowly like cold molasses.) Perhaps I have too many windows and programs open right now. If I can only get some things done, then it might speed up. The other big thing is finances … I have to get going on Susan’s and my taxes … and it is all feeling like molasses!!
