Arukas Challenge
Occasionally some friends put out a challenge for folks to make a representation of their idea. It is Heather’s turn to choose the challenge this week. This week is the Tangled Thursday – Playing with Arukas Challenge. So Heather says “I have a challenge for you that I’m going to make due next week. Arukas -Â http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs119/1101168872594/archive/1119308467989.html – draw it simply the first time and then work it into a tile any way you desire.” So this is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) using Arukas.
Zentangle Enticed Me
Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. I am able to be more in the flow again – whew! So above is my Arukas Zentangle Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected – super big different direction!!! Thank you to everyone who made comments on my posts these last weeks. That means a lot to me!!
Which Tangle is Which?
This went very very differently than I started with!! If you look at the images on the link above to Arukas, under the steps there are 6 variations. The bottom right variation (of those 6) is very cool (in my opinion) – and I tried to do it. I had chosen black paper not really thinking about the width of the pen point. On my colors that show up on black, the smallest point I have is .7 mm. When I more easily did Arukas the other day, I used a .3 mm black pen. Big difference!!
And then I just plan got mixed up trying to copy that concept. My first try is in the upper left corner. (The next one will be on white paper so watch for it 🙂 ) So I figured I better put in another Arukas which I did on the bottom right. It is ok but mine were much better (ya, I judge 🙂 ) with the white paper and smaller tipped pen. So something needed to happen to make this look fun and joyful :) Then I decided to put the little caterpillars called Ojo dancing around to activate the space. Now it passes the muster of my partner, Susan 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂
I am organizing my studio again to be able to work and now only a table has tons of stuff dumped on it – but the rest is organized!! (My studio always gets filled up when there are projects in the house that need a place to dump a bunch of stuff for awhile!! LOL!!) Thank you for stopping by!! I LOVE comments!! ~ Diane Clancy

Love the black paper, your choice of coloured pens, and the combination of the two different patterns! Very nice work, Diane.
Thank you so very much, Marie!!! 🙂
I love that you’ve gone to color with these latest zentagles (is that a word?) and just want to say how impressed I am with the progression in your work with this style of art. I am really enjoying watching them develop and these last few are just wonderful. Keep going, I think you are onto something very special here.
Hi Ellen – thank you so very much for commenting 🙂 🙂 Thank you for seeing my progression!! I am so glad you think this is a good niche for me … I am so very excited!! Having a long time friend like you who knows my work and notices what I do is very special!! Thank you!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Diane, that is very cool. Love the effect of the coloured pens on the black paper. They seem to be glowing. Great variation colouring in the parts of Arukas. Didn’t even occur to me. the caterpillers are perfect wandering around.
Thanks for linking up with Tangled Thursday.
Heather, I was mimicking some of the examples in the Arukas steps place 🙂 I like the coloring in of part of them too 🙂 Thank you about the paper!! 🙂 🙂
