A-F-M Challenge: AHH, Flos, Morning Glories

A-F-M Challenge

Each week Carolien and I put out a challenge for folks to make their representation of our idea. This week is the Weekly Challenge #39: Tangle with A-F-M. So here is what we say this week “This week is Challenge #39, the Alphabet challenge of A-F-M. Use tangles starting with the letters A, F & M in your drawing. Itâ€™s your choice to only use patterns with these letters or to add some others as well. Happy Tangling!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with for your A, F & M.” So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) using tangles that start with A, F & M.

Zentangle Enticed Me

Zentangle has become popular the last several years and I have been intrigued and putting my attention to it. I put my name with a Â© more prominently to protect my work. So above is my A-F-M Challenge ZIA. 🙂 what do you think? Do you like it? I’ve noticed my gardens have been heading toward winter like we are 🙂 (in the northern hemisphere) 🙂 🙂 This looks like winter to me …Â 🙂 🙂 Do you like the shading? This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected!! Thank you to everyone who made comments on my posts these last weeks. That means a lot to me!! 🙂 🙂

Which Tangle is Which?

Morning Glories is the pretty flowers in the center.Â AHH is the stars exploding all over the top.Â Flos is the 2 plants in the bottom right and left corners that have lovely leaves and bubbles.Â 🙂 🙂 There you have it!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

My Studio and Thank You!

I am organizing my studio again to be able to work and now only a table has tons of stuff dumped on it – but the rest is organized!! (My studio always gets filled up when there are projects in the house that need a place to dump a bunch of stuff for awhile!! LOL!!) Incredibly Exciting New Challenge!!

Anya has created the thirteenth Zentangle challenge in German (don’t worry – she gives an English translation too 🙂 ) Anya has now translated her title into English and has a quick link right under the title to the English.

I hope Anya doesn’t mind that I have quoted her extensively!!! I think this is a fabulous challenge and I want to share enough so you can see this is very doable and will be great fun to join in. To make it VERY clear – below is a very long quote from Anya – these are not my own words at all.

Each month the Anya puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. December 2015 is the thirteenth challenge from Anya and Pattern Mixer!! This month is Pattern Mixer Challenge #13. So here is what Anya says this month: “This month Iâ€™m not going to give you any patterns. I want you, instead, to pick two of your favorite patterns and mix them. Be sure to really use patterns that you like to draw and know very well..

ATTENTION, please! While all tiles submitted in the last months were stunningly beautiful, there seems to have been some confusion about pattern mixing. Just drawing two patterns next to each other on a tile is called a Duo Tangle (and it can definitely be worth your while), but when we mix patterns, we go one step further. Pattern mixing means to merge two tangles, to intertwine them or even create a new tangle from the combination. Iâ€™ve drawn up a few examples for you here. Mixing patterns is not easy and you might even want to collect a few ideas or do a few sketches first. But itâ€™s a real booster to yor creativity and itâ€™s â€“ well, a challenge!”

How do I mix the patterns?

Generally speaking, there are three basic ways of combining patterns and you should choose at least one of them for your tile.

Tangle in a tangle: You draw your first pattern a bit larger than you normally would and fill the empty spaces in your pattern with another tangle. Example
Combining elements: You take elements from one pattern and integrate them into the other tangle, thus creating a new pattern. Example
Merging: You make smooth transitions from one tangle pattern to the next, sort of letting one pattern melt into the next one. Like this.

So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) Combining Elements Loops ‘n Leaves and Leef Chainz done by me.

Combining Elements Challenge

I had to think and think about how to do this. I had a very hard time choosing patterns … which is why it took me so long. And it must be option #2 Combining Elements because it is not Tangle in a Tangle (I don’t think) or Merging!! This was quite fun once I set a direction!! 🙂
