K.I.S.S. Challenge

Each week the Diva puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. This week is the Weekly Challenge #198 : “K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, silly!)”. So here is what the Diva says this week “I look at where i am today and i find that i am still NEEDING some simplicity in my life –  just in other ways.   There are so many things that need to be done.  Gifts to be made/purchased/and wrapped, activities to do with the kids… I feel like the minutes and the hours of the days are gone before i even begin.  I don’t want to venture out to the stores, but i’m not done shopping and someone has to!  Christmas dinners with families, christmas parties with friends… i sort of feel like December needs to be 6 weeks long, instead of 4, only then there would be 6 weeks of craziness.

So, we come back to the challenge.  The first challenge ever posed here… the challenge to simplify. To keep it simple, silly. How does this challenge speak to you.  How can you translate that into your work? Will you simplify your string? Simplify your tangles?” So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) being simple.

Zentangle Enticed Me

Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. I am working through a lot but things are less pressured than they were. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected! I am thrilled that it looks to me (and Susan) like Dr. Seuss again like last week!! I chose coloration to match last week :)  Thank you to everyone who made comments on my posts these last weeks. That means a lot to me!!

Which Tangle is Which?

This time it is simple – there is only one tangle – Ojo. There you have it!! 🙂

I am organizing my studio again to be able to work and now only a table has tons of stuff dumped on it – but the rest is organized!! (My studio always gets filled up when there are projects in the house that need a place to dump a bunch of stuff for awhile!! LOL!!) Thank you for stopping by!! I LOVE comments!! ~ Diane Clancy

Each week the Diva puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. The Diva is back and her son is ok!!  This week is the Weekly Challenge #198 : Turning “New Official Tangle – Arukas”. So here is what the Diva says this week “Last weekend a new official tangle was announce in the Zentangle Newsletter – it’s called Arukas… which is cleverly Sakura backwards! This is one fun tangle.  If you haven’t had a chance to play with it – today is your lucky day!!! This week’s challenge is to use the new tangle in your tile or inspired piece.” So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) using Arukas.

Which Tangle is Which? and How I Did the Challenge

The Arukas are the stars like tangles in the upper left and lower right.  The Poke Leaf are hanging down in the upper right.  Rixty starts at the bottom left and meanders to the middle.  The SP-Eye-Ryl are popping up between Rixty and the right star.  Ojo meanders from the top middle, through the tile, to near the bottom left.  There you have it!! 🙂

Holiday Negative Space  Challenge

Occasionally some friends put out a challenge for folks to make their representation of their idea. It is my turn to choose the challenge this week. This week is the Tangled Thursday – Holiday Negative Space. So I say “here is my challenge … leave negative space that results in some holiday or winter image.” So this is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) creating a negative space or shape without any marks.  I was planning on a star but I couldn’t get it right … so I tried a couple of more shapes and eventually an angel came out well enough!  🙂

So above is my Holiday Negative Space Zentangle Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected! Thank you to everyone who made comments on my posts these last weeks. That means a lot to me!!

Which Tangle is Which?

The bottom of the angel’s dress is Barberpole.  The left hand edge of her dress is Rixty. The right hand side of her dress is SP-Eye-Ryl.  SP-Eye-Ryl is also in several other places – it is the leafy tangle.  To the right of her head is Jetties – the marble looking tangle. Her right hand is defined by Marasu – it looks like a snail.  Trio is under her skirt, under the Barberpole.  They are sort of heart shaped.  Then Beadlines is underneath the Trio and to the right of Rixty.  There you have it!! 🙂

Incredibly Exciting New Challenge!!

Anya has created the first Zentangle challenge in German (don’t worry – she gives an English translation too 🙂 ) I had to click the “Comments” to see the English but then it popped right up.  English is on the bottom half of the post.

I hope Anya doesn’t mind that I have quoted her extensively!!! I think this is a fabulous challenge and I want to share enough so you can see this is very doable and will be great fun to join in.  To make it VERY clear – below is a very long quote from Anya – these are not my own words at all.

Pattern Mixer Merging Mooka Rixty Challenge

Each month the Anya puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. December 2014 is the very first challenge from Anya and Pattern Mixer!!  This month is A new Zentangle-Challenge: The Pattern Mixer. So here is what Anya says this month “On every first day of the month I will randomly (or sometimes not so randomly) choose two patterns. Your job will be to merge these two patterns on a Zentangle tile.

How do I mix the patterns?

Generally speaking, thereare three basic ways of combining patterns and you should choose at least one of them for your tile.

  1. Tangle in a tangle: You draw your first pattern a bit larger than you normally would and fill the empty spaces in your pattern with another tangle. Example

  2. Combining elements: You take elements from one pattern and integrate them into the other tangle, thus creating a new pattern. Example

  3. Merging: You make smooth transitions from one tangle pattern to the next, sort of letting one pattern melt into the next one. Like this.

So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) merging Mooka and Rixty done by me.

Merging Challenge

This challenge stretches me in several ways.  First off Mooka and I have had a couple of rounds before and Mooka has always won. I had been working on ACEO size paper I had cut – 2.5″ x 3.5″ – so pretty small.  Second off, given the detail of Mooka and our past history, I knew I better go to larger paper.  Recently I bought some supplies and got some paper that is 6″ x 6″.  Since I got new paper I have been working with some 3.5″ x 3.5″ paper but that is as large as I have ever gone.  Even working with the 3.5″ square paper was a big jump for me from ACEO size.

So this is the first time I have worked on large paper like this.  Partway through, especially on the bottom right, Mooka and I started to become friends.  Whew!!  After I drew all the Mooka and Rixty and then started shading, it was amazing to see how the Mooka became 3 dimensional.  Very fun.  Just so you know, I chose Option 3 that Anya gave us – Merging. I hope you like it!!

I just found Anya today and decided to enter the challenge. So above is my Pattern Mixer Merging Mooka Rixty Zentangle Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected! Mooka is all the fingers waving around and curling inward.  Rixty is the one with the black triangles at the base of each connection.  There you have it!! 🙂

Each week Joey puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. This week is the joey’s weekly tangle challenge #37. So here is what Joey says this week ” We had our first dusting of snow this past weekend so I’m officially in the winter spirit now.

So this week’s challenge is to use the following tangles:
S – Scrumble
N – Nvelope
O – Ojo
W – Widgets

I just found Joey today and decided to enter the challenge.  So above is my SNOW. Zentangle Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected! Which Tangle is Which?

The circle in the middle is Nevelope.  The upper circle is Scrumble.  The joyful dancing caterpillar is Ojo.  Ojo was the very first tangle I ever tried and I love it (I am sure you can see.)  The other joyful, loose tangle is all those little Widgets spread around – they are not connected to the dancing line.  There you have it!! 🙂

Each week the Diva puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. This week is the Weekly Challenge #196 : Turning “All Dolled Up”. This is the last of the series of Guest Divas. So here is what the Guest Diva, Emily says this week “As the mother of an adorable four-year-old girl, my life is surrounded by dolls–stuffed dolls, magnetic dolls, story dolls, and of course, an infinite supply of princess dolls.  For the holiday season, I will be creating a tangled tree as part of a local historical society’s seasonal exhibit.  Area organizations and businesses decorate a tree based on items from the society’s collection.  I chose antique dolls for a tangled paper doll tree.  Each 12-inch ornament will have an individually hand-tangled dress.  I can’t wait to see how this tree develops!

 Your challenge this week is not to decorate an entire tree.  You may now breathe a huge sigh of relief. Instead, I invite you to be inspired by dolls like I have been.  Awaken your inner child, and add some playtime to your tangling with a doll-shaped string, a tangled paper doll chain, or a tangled fabric doll.  Do you have an old Barbie stuck in a trunk somewhere?  I bet there’s a way to tangle her too.” So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) All Dolled Up.

I am able to be more int he flow again – whew!  So above is my All Dolled Up Zentangle Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected! Thank you to everyone who made comments on my posts these last weeks. That means a lot to me!!

Paper Dolls

I started out by making outlines (strings) of a row of paper dolls. As a child I wanted an identical twin (or 2 identical triplets) so that I would have someone who really understood me.  I played some with dolls and such … but I had Betsy McCall.  She was not as developed as Barbie and she had only one set of clothes – a horse riding outfit.  She the stories I played were focused on what we did … not what clothes or fashion we had.  I probably had a Barbie too but the clothes and hair bug never bit me.

I also had some Colonial paper dolls with a couple of old-fashioned outfits.  I think it was a Shari Lewis paper doll also with a couple of outfits and a lamb.  I remembered the Sheri part and something to do with a lamb … and Wikipedia came up with Shari Lewis.  But what I really liked doing was making my own (very very simple) strings of identical twins/triplets and more.  I didn’t even decorate them … just cut them out so that they would have others who understood them.

I always thought I had been a twin and the other one just didn’t make it though the nine months.  But the really funny thing … when I told my Mom that once, she told me that she had always thought the same thing about herself. Wow!!  That was totally amazing to me (and she meant it).  Another funny thing, I am married to a twin too (but a fraternal twin who did not have that experience of being understood).  And I have always scooped up any reading I could about identical twins and they resonance they often have with each other.

Of course, much of the spiritual and energetic healing and information that is now so prevalent says that we are much more connected than realized.  So now I can focus on being part of and connected to the whole of the human consciousness where we are all really one.  So I no longer need to be an identical twin … but I am still fascinated by them!!  🙂

Which Tangle is Which?

The middle head is Cruffle.  The right and left heads are Jetties.  The bodies of the triplets are SP-Eye-Ryl.  The net between the bodies is Florz.  The floor underneath is Knightbridge and the space above the paper dolls is Nipa.  There you have it!! 🙂
