National Coming Out Days Challenge
Each week the Diva puts out a challenge for folks to make their representation of her idea. This week is the Weekly Challenge #188: National Coming Out Day. So here is what the Diva says this week “This week … i was contacted by a very well spoken young man who sent me a really well written email. His name is Daniel, and he is 12 years old. … Daniel told me that October 11th is National Coming Out Day.  Daniel’s friend is gay, and so he wanted me to help him support his friend and to issue a challenge with a LGBT theme.
I think it would be a good way to further inspire tanglers and raise awareness if you considered a challenge to somehow put some aspect of LGBT in a tile. Perhaps using the colors of the rainbow, or using tangles that start with L, G, B, and T, or using those letters as a string?

Why Is LGBT So Important to Me?
This issue would be important to me anyway because I am a big supporter of Liberation. But also, it is very personal since my partner, Susan, and I got married recently. We also have lots and lots of Lesbian friends. 15 years ago none of us ever thought Gay Marriage would be legal in our own lifetimes. And even 5 years ago we never thought that we would be eligible for Federal Benefits. A year ago in the US same gender spouses become eligible for Federal Benefits. Wow!! We have benefited from the work of generations before us who have fought all Liberation Struggles!
For many of us who are LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) we never expected to live in this country and not have to stay mostly hidden. There is still much violence in this country against LGBT and folks are still dying. But legally we are allowed to be ourselves! In many places in the US people must still stay hidden in their jobs or housing else risk losing just about everything. Couples who are legally married in one state and move to another state without Gay Marriage often have to go way back into the closet. This is why it is still important to have a National Anti-discrimination Law to make it illegal to fire gay people or to be able to lose our housing for being gay.
And in way too many places in the world it is illegal to be gay and often people are put in jail or killed. There has been tons of progress of LGBT people being supported in being ourselves. But in way too many places there is terrible prejudice, oppression and punishment. (Much as the punishment toward young women who go to school in some places.) It is a little scary for me to be so public here but if young women can go to school and risk death, certainly I can be open and give support to other LGBT folks who have no chance to be open. And what better day than National Coming Out Day to do it? 🙂
Zentangle Enticed Me
Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. I am putting one foot in front of the other at times still! And for those of you who really read this … my partner is recovering from an expected surgery right at this moment. So above is my National Coming Out Day Zentangle Tangle ZIA. This is an issue near and dear to my heart!! This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected!
Which Tangle is Which?
The checkered balloon in the middle is Knightsbridge. It is a balloon in honor of the rainbow arcs of balloons that are usually in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Marches. To me, Pride Marches are a lot about color – thus all the color above.
The upper left umbrellas, fans or roller coasters is Coaster. Flos is the little flowers in the left bottom corner. Jetties are the marbles in the bottom middle. Fescu is the little leaves, flowers or plants in the middle right. In the upper right is PokeLeaf. In the middle top is Poke Root with one PokeLeaf. There you have it!! 🙂
I am always a little shocked when I see my ZIA blown up – but this isn’t so bad this time … but I wanted to get it into the Diva’s challenge. I am still creating these ZIAs lying down while working on an Art Card size (2.5×3.5″). So perhaps not too bad given that. I have been slowly sharing my other ones on Facebook. I changed to using Art Card size (2.5×3.5″) since I have a bunch cut out already from good quality paper. It might not be as smooth as it should be. But I am learning!
And my studio is getting more organized so maybe I can cut some new paper!! I can’t wait to find my black paper and do some cutting! One thing after enough keeps getting in the way of that. But stuff has started to clear out of my studio again so maybe there is hope!! (My studio always gets filled up when there are projects in the house that need a place to dump a bunch of stuff for awhile!! LOL!!) Thank you for stopping by!! I LOVE comments!! ~ Diane Clancy

Kia – thank you so very much for saying this is a party!! And thank you for your congrats to us 🙂 🙂
Kia, thank you so very much!! I am delighted you see a party – that is what I wanted 🙂
Good on you, this is quite something to ‘say’ aloud; a brave action!!!! Your tile is full of live and colors, well done.
Thank you, Annmarie!! Both for your comments about the tile and about what I said!! 🙂
This reminds me of MardiGras! The knightsbridge lends a regal air to it, and all patterns are so active and vibrant…Pride parades, MardiGras parades. Colorful and alive and exciting. Well done.
Thank you, HeidiSue!! MardiGras is wonderful – yes, both great parties!! Thank you!
Great design and colors! Many congrats to you and Susan!!! 😀
Thank you so very much, dear Elena!! Both about the design and us 🙂
