Zentangle Drawing Challenge
Occasionally some friends put out a challenge for folks to make their representation of their idea. It is Marie’s turn to choose the challenge this week. This week is the Tangled Thursday – getting back on track. Marie says “Since I haven’t been drawing all summer and don’t even know when my zentangle-ing gear is, the challenge is just pick up your supplies and create a zentangle related drawing. That’s it! Any size, any patterns. Fun shape or square. On paper or on anything you want. Totally open.  No rules, other than you have to use zentangle patterns in some way.” So this is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) Getting Back on Track with Zentangle Drawing. I used 4 new tangles for me! You might have noticed I like learning new tangles!! 🙂
Zentangle Enticed Me
Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. I did want to try some one that are new to me – so above is my zentangle related drawing ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected!
Zentangle Drawing
I have a list of tangles that intrigue me that I want to try – and all 4 of these caught my attention! I think the 4 go pretty well together. With soft eyes I like it (without looking too hard). Just how it happened! And the black isn’t perfect … but it is there. Yesterday Susan had her major surgery and is doing well!! Whew!!!
Which Tangle is Which?
Marasu is that so cool pattern in the middle that is a coil. I have seen some stunning tiles using this tangle!! To the right in the arc is Coaster. It looks sort of like umbrellas or Ferris wheels or fans. The top right with the black and white exchanging in the circles and stripes is Strircles. Then the bottom left is a garland of PokeLeaf. Usually PokeLeaf rises up in a bouquet but I liked the idea of a vine draping across. I was going to shade the Marasu and Coaster which I drew first. But when I put in Strirckes, shading didn’t seem right. 🙂 And there you have it!
I am always a little shocked when I see my ZIA blown up – all these spaces then show up and how shaky the shapes are … but I wanted to get it into this Tangled Thursday challenge. I am still creating these ZIAs lying down while working on an Art Card size (2.5×3.5″). So perhaps not too bad given that.
I have been slowly sharing my other ones on Facebook. I changed to using Art Card size (2.5×3.5″) since I have a bunch cut out already from good quality paper. It might not be as smooth as it should be. But I am learning! And my studio is getting more organized so maybe I can cut some new paper!! I can’t wait to find my black paper and do some cutting!
Thank you for stopping by!! I LOVE comments!!! ~ Diane Clancy

Looks good Diane. I have days when I am all about trying a new tangle, and other days when I only want to use ones I am already familiar with. Perhaps those are the tangles that are like a calorie free comfort food.
Thank you, Heather!! Yes, some days I like new ones too and other days I can’t think of even one 🙂
