Pattern Within Pattern Challenge
Occasionally some friends put out a challenge for folks to make their representation of their idea. It is Tami’s turn to choose the challenge this week. This week is the Tangled Thursday – Pattern within a Pattern. Tami’s blog has the directions Tangled Thursday Challenge: A Pattern Within a Pattern. Tami saw an incredible Zentangle tile on Pinterest which you can see on her blog. Tami says “For the next challenge, to be posted September 25th, create a large pattern and then fill it with smaller patterns.  It doesn’t have to be the one shown here – it can be squares, triangles, any pattern you like.  Go forth and tangle.” So this is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) A Pattern Within a Pattern.
Zentangle Enticed Me
Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. Above is my Pattern Within Pattern ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected!
Which Tangle is Which?
Well, this time I am not going to tell you!! :)  I made sort of elongated ornament shapes (not too even) and then put patterns in and around them. There are tons of patterns in there. Can you identify any of them? And there you have it!
I am always a little shocked when I see my ZIA blown up – all these spaces then show up and how shaky the shapes are … but I wanted to get it into this Tangled Thursday challenge. I am still creating these ZIAs lying down while working on an Art Card size (2.5×3.5″). So perhaps not too bad given that.
I have been slowly sharing my other ones on Facebook. I changed to using Art Card size (2.5×3.5″) since I have a bunch cut out already from good quality paper. It might not be as smooth as it should be. But I am learning! And my studio is getting more organized so maybe I can cut some new paper!! I can’t wait to find my black paper and do some cutting!
Thank you for stopping by!! I LOVE comments!!! ~ Diane Clancy

Beautiful work. I especially like the piano keys.
I admire you for working on the small card size. Although I know Zentangles are supposed to be on the smaller cards, I usually work on a little larger piece of cardstock or watercolor paper just to save myself the eye strain.
Thank you, Tami!! I never saw the Piano Keys before but I like them too 🙂
I was so inspired by the pattern you shared!! 🙂 I have a lot of Art Card size already cut so that is why I am using them. 🙂
this turned out Lovely. I like the shape you started with. It does remind me of the shape of some ornaments we put on our tree each year.
