2 New Tangles: Facade, Boo-Kee, Earth Rising

2 New Tangles Challenge

Occasionally some friends put out a challenge for folks to make their representation of their idea. It is my turn (for the first time) to choose the challenge this week.  This week is the Tangled Thursday – Duos. So I say “here is my challenge … Use 2 tangles that are new to you.  Feel free to use other tangles too.” So this is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) using 2 New Tangles – well actually 3! All 3 tangles are new for me!

Zentangle Enticed Me

Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. I did want to try some one that are new to me – so above is my 2 New Tangles ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected!

Using 2 New Tangles

I have a list of tangles that intrigue me that I want to try – and all three of these caught my attention!  I think the 3 (and 1 variation) go pretty well together.  With soft eyes I like it (without looking too hard). Just how it happened!

Which Tangle is Which?

Boo-Kee is the tangle that dances across the center – the little balls with triangles off it.  I looked at all the images I could find using it and sort of tried a variation (or maybe a variation of a variation).  Boo-Kee goes from bottom left to top right.  To the right is Facade.  There are no steps to show how to do it but I think I have the general idea.  I can see that it would have been better with more circles behind circles – maybe next time. The top left is still Facade but a variation of it – reversing the dark and light.  That would rock with more layered circles and maybe I would make that whole part bigger to have more room to work. Earth Rising the the big black and white triangle on the middle bottom (with lots of little triangles and half moons in it).  I did it sideways from the directions because I saw a tile that way.  I like it and can see more space would help me tangle better. And there you have it!

I am always a little shocked when I see my ZIA blown up – all these spaces then show up and how shaky the shapes are … but I wanted to get it into this Tangled Thursday challenge. I am still creating these ZIAs lying down while working on an Art Card size (2.5×3.5″). Also, my eyes have been spinning some on working on these small tiles. So perhaps not too bad given that.

I have been slowly sharing my other ones on Facebook. I changed to using Art Card size (2.5×3.5″) since I have a bunch cut out already from good quality paper. It might not be as smooth as it should be. But I am learning! And my studio is getting more organized so maybe I can cut some new paper!! I can’t wait to find my black paper and do some cutting!
