My Favorite Tangle
This is Giggle Vine – a fun, silly tangle but I can’t stop using it lately. I spun my wheels at the back of my head trying to decide what my favorite tangle is. One of my friends and I keep learning new ones so right now Giggle Vine is in my head a lot since it is so versatile. The one on the left is the original tangle and the ones on the right are the variations I know (they are what the original creator – Moon Attic – included with the steps. Obviously my planning of space was pretty flawed!!! I think Giggle Vine is my current favorite because it is easy to use (I don’t have to get stressed about doing it right). And it is so flexible to be able to fill in spaces as needed but it doesn’t take up a lot of space itself. And there is a rhythm to using it that I enjoy!!

My Favorite Tangle Challenge
Occasionally some friends put out a challenge for folks to make their representation of their idea. This week is the Tangled Thursday – Your favourite tangle “. So here is what Heather says “Here’s our challenge for this Thursday. For this thursday, select a tangle you really enjoy. Show it to us in it’s most common form and tell us why you like it and then show some variations if applicable and finally show a tile that includes this tangle.” So this is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) using my Favorite Tangle
Zentangle Enticed Me
Zentangle has become popular the last couple of years and I have been intrigued and just starting put my attention to it. I wanted to try some tangles that are new to me to practice so above is my Favorite Tangle Zentangle Tangle ZIA. This – of course – went in a very different direction than expected!
My Favorite Tangle
I wanted to use Giggle Vine as my Favorite Tangle. I also wanted to try at least one tangle that I had never used. After looking at my list that I want to try, I chose Raddox. This is a very clumsy version of Raddox!!! But Raddox can look so lovely with the peaks and valleys echoing each other – one with lines of dots, then a line of stripes and then the dots again. My zig zags went a little soft and never recovered … and they took up and incredible amount of space!! Well … in Zentangle, one just works with the “problems” and uses them for more creation.
Which Tangle is Which?
As I said in the paragraph above, Raddox took a lot of room going on the diagonal like that!! So then the Giggle Vines had to giggle their way around the Raddox. At first I put my 2 favorite variations of Giggle Vine behind the Raddox .. but then it just begged to go over the Raddox too. So the Giggle Vine got quite tangled all around this ZIA. I am always a little shocked when I see my ZIA blown up – all these spaces then show up … but I wanted to get it into this Tangled Thursday challenge.

I am still creating these ZIAs lying down while working on an Art Card size (2.5×3.5″). So perhaps not too bad given that.
I have been slowly sharing my other ones on Facebook. I changed to using Art Card size (2.5×3.5″) since I have a bunch cut out already from good quality paper. It might not be as smooth as it should be. But I am learning! And my studio is getting more organized so maybe I can cut some new paper!! I can’t wait to find my black paper and do some cutting! Thank you!! ~ Diane Clancy

Nice! I haven’t done this pattern yet, but it’s cool. I’ll be using it in one of my future tiles. Thanks for featuring it.
Hi Diane, Giggle vine does look like fun. I must give it a try. Thanks for pointing it out.
Thanks for joining in with Tangled Thursday.
