Orphan Works Postponed
From the Illustrators’Partnership:
The Orphan Works Mark-up for this week has been postponed. This gives us more time to email and fax members of the House Judiciary Committee. Write and ask them to support the amendments submitted jointly by the Illustrators’ Partnership, the Artists Rights Society and the Advertising Photographers of America.

These amendments would:
Insure that the bill will only affect true orphaned work;
Insure that the bill will not violate international trade agreements;
Insure that the bill will not take effect until a market impact survey concludes it will not harm existing commercial markets.
Otherwise, ask them not to vote this bill out of committee until Congress can hold proper hearings into the harm it will do to small businesses, individual creators and ordinary citizens.

I don’t understand why so many art organizations are fighting against the Orphan Works bill when they are too cowardly to speak out against people who are already violating the copyright of other artists as Shepard Fairey has done. He is a prime example of the type of artist we should be going against instead of supporting. Put up or shut up. Look up what he did with the art of Rene Mederos. Or are you afraid of making the Obama crowd angry? You can’t have both worlds you know! We can’t stand for some rights some of the time. We must stand against ANYONE who steps on a fellow artists rights. The fact that he is so popular shows just how much the public cares for our rights!
Awesome site and nice post. Learnt a great deal from it. Will be back soon.
Great looking site and some nice information. Would love to hear more from you on the topic.
