Which Blog Look Do You Like? — 8 Comments

  1. I like the new blog look better. As nice as it is to have all the information that the 3-column design affords, it’s just too busy. The new header is cool, but it’s busy enough for the whole site. The rest of the page should be more subdued, me thinks.

  2. So is what you like about the new look is the header with the image? I agree that I am overwhelmed when I look at all this. It originally seemed more efficient .. but really getting a little wild to my eyes.

So is there anything else about the look you like besides the header? I think I might try to redo the old one with this header – but smaller and trying to get the sections more defined like you said awhile ago.

But I learned a lot – my refrain of life I guess. Thank you ~ and I want to hear what others say too!

  3. Wow I really like it!!! But then I am a fan of the three column blogs and only a matter of time before my art blog is using three columns as I have done on my SnapShots blog. 😀

One thing I particularly like is how you have used colour to separate your sidebars from your post. Seeing what you have done has made me decide to put time in over the weekend into fiddling with the template some more on SnapShots because I have used white for the sidebars and posts. Yours is a much better idea as it allows me to focus on what I want to see straight away. Yes it maybe busy but you have a lot of information packed into what I would expect to see on blogs now and all the better that I don’t have to continuously scroll to find what I am looking for as happens with a single sidebar.

  4. Hi Susan,

Thank you for coming by and telling me what you think. It is very helpful. Each piece of feedback helps me figure it out one more bit. It sure does take a lot of fiddling to get it just right (especially if you only sort of know what you are doing like me). Glad my fiddling helps your fiddling … the world goes around and around. Good luck this weekend with your fiddling!

  5. Hi –

If you stop in and it looks weird, it is because I am now working on the old theme to put the banner into it and change it some. You can still see the looks from the images in the post. I think I am moving toward a compromise….

Thank you for any more feedback you give me.

  6. Hi Diane,

How much of this journey have I missed, anyway? When did you start changing? I like the three column layout…and I actually think I like the banner…but the font is hard to read. I’ll keep checking back. I will have more time this weekend…

  7. I prefer 2 column blogs for the cleanness and simplicity

A 3 column blog is just too busy for me. It feels much more commercial and junkie to me. As if the focus of the content is the sidebars and not the articles.

    Just my opinion!

  8. Hi Lisa,

Thank you for stopping by! It is good to know which you like. As you can see from the comments above, I was getting feedback for the 3 cols – so I tried to make that work. But, ultimately, the business bothered me too much.

I like what you said about why 3 cols didn’t work and the 2 cols do work. Whew! This decision is made! thank you all!
