I have missed blogging with you!!  Thank you so so much!!  Hope you are doing well!!

Orphan Bill Passed the Senate - Try to Stop it in the House

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

FROM THE ILLUSTRATORS’ PARTNERSHIP

Orphan Works Opposition: Plan B

SEPT 27  Yesterday, in a cynical move, the sponsors of the Senate Orphan Works Act passed their controversial bill by a controversial practice known as hotlining.

With lawmakers scrambling to raise 700 billion dollars to bail out businesses that are “too big to fail,” the Senate passed a bill that would force small copyright holders to subsidize big internet interests such as Google, which has already said it plans to use millions of the images this bill will orphan.

Healing Heart

IWith the meltdown on Wall Street, this is no time for Congress to concentrate our nation’s copyright wealth in the hands of a few privately owned corporate databases. The contents of these databases would be more valuable than secure banking information. Yet this bill would compel creators to risk their own intellectual property to supply content to these corporate business models. That means it would be our assets at risk in the event of their failure or mismanagement.

As David Rhodes, President of the School of Visual Arts has said, the Orphan Works bill would socialize the expense of copyright protection while privatizing the profit of creative endeavors. Copyright owners neither want nor need this legislation. It will do great harm to small businesses. We already have a banking crisis. Congress should not lay the groundwork for a copyright crisis.

–Brad Holland and Cynthia Turner, for the Illustrators’ Partnership

NOW FOR PLAN B

We MUST try to stop the House Judiciary Committee from folding their bill (HR5889) and adopting the Senate version.

PLEASE EMAIL CONGRESS TODAY.

If you’ve done it before, do it again!

It takes only a minute to use our new special letter.
Click on the link below, enter your zip code, and take the next steps.
Thanks to all of  you who heeded the call to action yesterday.

Back to Diane: I am going to be away for several days - for longer than I have been away from home for over 11 1/2 years … so I am pretty excited. I am hoping to get some real healing … but certainly rest.  I decided to not post ahead … that perhaps absence will make your heart grow fonder …  I so much appreciate my online friends … you mean a LOT to me and I take you in my heart.

I have news for you … I have an opportunity to go to a healing workshop.  My brother unfortunately cannot go and he kindly offered me his spot.  I am thrilled!!  I will be gone Sunday through Thursday and Friday is my hospital day for the Remicade. I have not been gone for 4 nights in at least 11 1/2 years.  Either I will set up simple posts so you can remember me or I will actually skip some days for the first time since I started blogging about a year and a half ago.  This will give me the rest and rejuvenation time I have so much needed.  Thank you for coming by!

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

This image is for the Pet Monologues which is the blog which I directed you to showing that incredible video about the lion hugging the woman who rescued him. Here is that other lion video I told you about the other day. This video is absolutely amazing!! If you loved that lion video I showed you before - and who didn’t? Then you will LOVE LOVE LOVE this video … it is utterly amazing … some of us have cried from the beauty. I know I could put the video here … but it slows things down more - so I wanted to link you to it. It will open in a new window.

Illustration Friday - Clique

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Illustration Friday has a challenge every week. This week is Clique. Notice this Clique is not so beautiful as those who are following their own dreams and paths. Those in the Clique are actually the same as the others … they are beautiful too … but their inability to be themselves makes them shine less … there is no room for their light. Notice that those not in the Clique (most of us) actually make lovely patterns with our dancing and dreaming.  And the best part of all?  Anyone from the Clique, at any time, can choose to start following their own light and let their truth and beauty show. Shine On!!   Illustration Friday is a great way to showcase your work and a wonderful opportunity to meet lots of wonderful people! I encourage you to check it out! Lots of fun people and paintings! Thank you for stopping by!

Too Busy Today

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Today was another day of the AWE Project (Artists Window Exhibit) and building the Creative Economy … and exhaustion.  There were 4 separate trips out to do these things … (I do best with one trip or perhaps 2 for my health) … and in those 4 trips there were at least 8 stops.    Given that stores are in the project, we need to make sure there are artists in there … so that was a lot of today … doing those kind of things. So I am quite done in - so I hope you forgive a short post and will keep coming back!!

Chaos in Paradise

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Yesterday the AWE Project went up … (Artists Window Exhibit) … most of them anyway. This is a month long show … with some stores having different schedules … so all the windows (except for a few) should have been up yesterday. A month is not that long so I wish the windows were all up now. But it is chaos at this point with some of the windows not up yet .. and people still changing windows. But this kind of chaos is there and I have to deal with it … but this is how I feel. Well, actually, I think this digital image is sort of lovely, even though the eyes are wild!!

Green Chaos

For the People’s Voice newsletter I am also working on, at the last minute things changed there too. I have had almost all the layout finished, and then … well, a bunch changed. I have still been waiting for the last pieces to come in. They came in this morning. The deadline for the articles being in was August 1 … yes, that was August, not September.

Now understand these people are not paid - these are volunteer organizations … so it is not as if I can reprimand people with bad evaluations. Given that I do have real responsibility, I don’t always know what to do. I do know I need to keep connecting with joy and delight and not get bogged in anger … but besides that, it is one foot in front of the other. Does anyone have any ideas of how to be firm, kind and effective in these situations??

Another thing that is on my plate - Thursday I am going to be interviewed with 2 other AWE artists on a local public access TV show. This is a first for me and I am fairly anxious about preparing for this. I get to set it up in any way that works for me. I need to decide how to do this and these other projects have been very distracting from my own work. I need to make decisions and then prepare a bunch of things based on those decisions. Thanks for coming by!!

The AWE Project is Up!!

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Today was the day the AWE Project went up … (Artists Window Exhibit) … Those windows that are up, look great!! Not everyone is up .. but I am not getting involved. The 3 windows that Susan or I are in, are finished .. for the moment. But I agreed to share mine with someone else and it means I will take mine apart next Friday night, put it back together with more of my work and then take it down again a week later, let the other person have the front part of the window, and then put some of mine back up again. Clearly, I did not think this out too well - it is a lot more work than I had counted on. But I gave my word for this time

I am learning better and better how to not take responsibility for everyone else. I once got a book from someone for “the Indispensable Woman” … the one thing I read right off .. and always remembered… was …. (paraphrased I am sure) … “If you are smart enough to be indispensable, then you are smart enogh to figure out how to be dispensable.” I am working on that, being aligned with joy and resting. A pretty good combo - I bet you agree. Now to DO it!! Thanks for coming by!!!

Two Things Challenge - Old & Fashion

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

I like to enter the 2 Things Challenge each week. This week is Old / Fashion. This is my entry for Old & Fashion - I think it works - do you? … Perhaps I should explain it - though all of you seem to get it without my doing that!! The bubble on the right is Old and tired (whoops I guess I projected my tired onto the bubble) and it starts to turn into Fashion. By the end of the progression the bubbles are in high Fashion and fit to go out on the town!! Bet you didn’t know what Bubble High Fashion looked like - now you do!! Here are the entries for last week’s Music / Note. Anyone can join in, and I hope you give it a try!! We would love more people playing with us! Details are at this link above.

Needing Time to Think

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I was in bed when I realized I hadn’t posted … so I am doing a quick post … I made something new for you tonight - I hope you enjoy. I am starting to dig in to all the work that has piled up with the 3 sets of computer problems I have had these last 3 weeks … I need to get the People’s Voice newsletter done and the AWE Project set and do some thinking about what I want out of life. I need to both get lined up with my soul and Spirit and also take charge of my life - at the same time. All these problems I have had have squashed my time and I need to now make decisions to get back more in the flow. Do you identify with this at all? I would love to hear your thoughts!!! Thank you for coming by!!

Illustration Friday - Island

This Island is beautiful in my opinion.  I would love to go there about now - as long as my work load doesn’t keep piling up!!!  Of course, as always, Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.   Illustration Friday is a great way to showcase your work and a wonderful opportunity to meet lots of wonderful people! I encourage you to check it out! Lots of fun people and paintings! Thank you for stopping by!

Island

Sometimes Island is lonely

Sometimes being alone is

A Relief!!!

Othertimes it is

Sad and Lonely

None of is really an Island

We are all interconnected

That is the truth and reality

We are also connected

To the Earth

And the Universe too!

None of us are alone

None of us is an Island

Even if it sometimes

Feels that way

Reach out

If lonely

Take the space

And rejuvenate

If overwhelmed

(Would that I would listen)

Then one comes into

Balance,

Around the issue of

Island.
