Since people are still buying functional items, I realized I can use some of my energy to create items in shops that you can use besides look at.  I think I might tackle shirts soon.  Any ideas?  What would you think was still worth buying with an image on it?  Thank you for stopping by!

WWAO Collaborative Gallery and Swap

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

WWAO (Worldwide Women Artists Online) is a great group of women artists that I belong to.  We had an ATC swap this spring of 2009. ATC are the same as ACEOs … a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2″ piece of art.  ATC is the Art Trading Card … so that name gets used for when they are traded instead of sold.  That is partly why I have started calling them Art Cards, ACEO in my shops … I think that is a clearer name for these delightful little works of art!

The WWAO Collaborative Gallery shows the incredible work of many talented artists from WWAO.  This gallery (http://wwaogallery.blogspot.com) showcases ATCs from 16 artists in an incredible diversity of styles and mediums.  It is worth taking the time to look through these posts …  I know I have enjoyed seeing lots of work from one artist, each after the other … in some deep way it taught me something I can’t verbalize yet … about both the continuity and range a single artist can have and still have her style look coherent.

WWAO Collaborative Gallery

WWAO Collaborative Gallery

WWAO on the site says “Worldwide Women Artists is an international collective of women artists showing and selling our work through the worldwide web. As women artists, we give birth to our ideas in a variety of styles and media. We embrace the diversity of each other’s work, celebrating the joy of creating our art and sharing it with the world. We welcome female visual artists from all over the world who create and sell their own original art.”

Here is the post about my art …. (http://wwaogallery.blogspot.com/2009/03/wwao-atc-swap-diane-clancy.html).  You can see 13 pastels that I did for this ATC Swap.  I hope you enjoy them!!  I am planning to do more – particularly as a way to be able to sell originals at an affordable price.  I have also made prints of these if there is one that just grabs you and you just MUST have!  All my print ACEOs are $6 – so let me know if you are interested.

Some of these vibrant, colorful paintings from this featured article are available as prints, Art Cards/ACEOs, tiles, totes, postage, mugs and more.  You can find them at Diane’s Etsy Shop (http://DianeClancy.etsy.com), CafePress Shop (http://cafepress.com/DianeClancy) and Zazzle Shop (http://zazzle.com/DianeClancyArt).  Just ask for other merchandise or sizes, including matted and framed!

Basics for Your Arcade – Part II

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Continuation of the Basics of Your Arcade

The Arcade at The Handmade Product Directory is becoming a popular place for artists to sell all our work from multiple shops all together in one place – in a very affordable way. All sorts of handmade products are available there – not just art. Please see yesterday’s post for Part I. You can see here an example of how I have items from different shops all shown together – this can give you an idea of what YOUR own Arcade can look like!

Conundrum I

Conundrum I, Collage, Framed Print, Etsy © Diane Clancy

What about the other parts of the form? At the beginning of the form it asks if you are currently listed in The Handmade Shopping Directory. Check for yourself at http://www.dmpmc.net/THMD if you are not sure. My directory entry came up when I did a search for myself.  You might want to be in the directory if you are not. Agreeing to the terms of service is obvious.  Then you need a banner of up to 760×100 pixels and an avatar (75×75). Fill in the image verification and hit the “Register” button.

Conundrum I-postage

What if I need to reenter the verification code? Good question! Not only do you need to so the code again, you will need to reenter your links to the banner and avatar.  Additionally, and “ ‘ “ may add  “ \ “ that you will want to take out.

How much does this cost?
The Arcade is a way to send your customers to one shop instead of to lots of different shops.  One way to think about the cost is to consider it low-cost advertising … sending people to one place only – so they can see the breadth and range of your products at a glance. The cost is $ 2 a month cost for having a shop, for this portal. The only fee is the shop fee of $2 per month – with NO FEES for setup, listings or sales!!

Here are examples of 2 Arcades. My Arcade shop is http://dianeclancy.dmpmc.net – where I sell Fine Art, Fine Art Cards and lots of Fine Art images on mugs, tiles, postage, totes and more.  Another Arcade is http://susanelkin.dmpmc.net where Susan Elkin sells her Fine Art Photography as prints, cards, ACEOs, mugs, tiles, totes, postage and more.

How do I get money? You don’t get money directly from your Arcade – this is a portal that sends your customers directly to your other shops where they actually purchase your items.

How does your customer get the item?
Since you are actually sending your customers to your other shops, that is where they purchase your items.  So they would receive the items as they usually would from that particular shop.

How do I list an item? There is an Excel file you can use to list lots of items at once.  There is also an online form where you can list one item at a time.  You will need the url of the item, the picture of the item, a short description, along with the category the item belongs in.  I learned some lessons the hard way so please ask questions if you want more help.

Is it worth opening an Arcade shop? I think so. I know I am delighted to be able to show my different work all in one place.  This way I can show an original from my website, a print from Etsy, postage with this image from Zazzle, a framed tile with this image from CafePress and a poster with this image from RedBubble.  It allows me to suggest to customers various ways they may want to purchase the images they love. I hope at least one of these ways will encourage them to take that step to buy!

This is a broad overview of The Arcade – we are glad to answer any questions or point you in the right direction. There are of course many more details – we can go into them as you need them. Good luck selling!!

Tomorrow I share a blog where I have been featured and I was also quoted in another local newspaper.   I hope you like this vibrant,  colorful painting!   Thank you for stopping by!

Featured in Town Crier, Greenfield

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Today I was featured in the Town Crier, Greenfield, MA.  It is THE front page article and is in full color!  Susan Elkin is also interviewed and featured.  Pretty exciting!!  I am quoting you the beginning of the article with a link to read the rest ….  Here is the rest of the article.  This is the online version … but on the print version, it is big and lovely too!

<beginning of the quote>Diane Clancy, Susan Elkin and fellow Artists of Franklin County have been presenting their signature ArtProject Window Exhibit, or AWE, in downtown Greenfield storefront windows for the past three years with positive feedback from residents, visitors and shop owners.

“People in town say it makes such a difference,” said Diane.  “It really ties our community together and we want to broaden the base.”

Artists of Franklin County meet often to hold artist presentations, various discussion groups and work on other projects like the constantly expanding AWE. AWE can be seen three times a year during the spring, summer and fall at over 30 locations in the area. Last year’s exhibit featured artwork by Greenfield High School students, works by mental health patients will be a focus of interest this year.  <end of the quote>

Celebrating HeART

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

The festival of Get to the heART of it!!!! asks everyone to share your HeART by words, art, video – whatever speaks to you around love of art or love of life!

Mother Henna by artist Kara L.C. Jones has been working on an incredible project of making 1,000 Faces of Mother Henna. I am going to write more about that on Friday … it is quite a project!! But she is also sponsoring a Blog Festival: Get to the heART of it!!!! You can see the details in her post. So I am getting to the HeART of it also … hence the badge that celebrates her Festival.

Kara

Mother Henna – Get to the HeART of it!!

I am joining into this celebration and I encourage you to join in also!  The gist of joining to is to “post an entry on your own blog before Valentines Day 2009. Share your love of art or love of life or host a heART themed party or tell us about the heART of yourself. Tell us what is at the heART of you! Words, art, video, anything you wish. Write a poem, share a short story, all formats welcome.

Conundrum I

Conundrum I, Collage © Diane Clancy

After thinking about what really represents the “the heART of myself,” I realized that this particular image is the visual representation of myself and my soul.  This vibrant, colorful painting was one that took me dozens of hours to complete. It is also very precious to me because I was spending some time at home with my parents when I started this … and my mom spent time with me choosing some of these pieces of fabric and paper to put together to create this piece. I love it and it speaks so deeply to me.

For many people it is their favorite piece of mine … If I had to choose one piece to keep, this would be it.  Also the double faces look a little like a heart. So this is my contribution for Getting to the heART of it!!!! I hope you also will share your HeART by words, art, video – whatever speaks to you around love of art or love of life!

I would like to acknowledge today that a most wondrous, historic, hopeful event happened as Obama became the President of the US today!!  This has the potential to be a unifying force in this whole earth with the leadership of such a smart, thoughtful person!  Such a joy!!!   I would love to hear how you are doing. Thanks for coming by!!
