Free Cloth & Featured at One Pebble

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Amanda Makepeace featured me on One Pebble: An Art Exchange today.  Amanda LOVES pebbles and she has a great offer of gifting someone an original Art Card, ACEO each time someone sends her a pebble.  WOW – that is some trade.  Awhile ago I walked around the block and picked up a variety of pebbles of different colors, textures and sizes to thrill Amanda … she gets such a kick out of them!  She wrote a great post right here about my pebbles (and the ACEO I gave her)!!  You can see one of my vibrant, colorful paintings in the image below and much more clearly in Amanda’s post!  Thank you, Amanda!

I LOVE the name of her post – Beauty in Diversity!!  Please go over and check out her blog about this pebble exchange!  Also I want to show you some of the ACEOs that she has traded for pebbles … right here … and from there, you can go check The Artist and other parts of this site.  She also have a link to her regular website.  Amanda is a very creative artist and very active in online activities.  Plus she is kind and generous – a great combo!

At the Westerm Mass Etsy gathering on Sunday, someone had mentioned that a local shop was giving away tons of cloth (for free – really giving away).  RepoDepot is a shop in Easthampton, MA that carries vintage and reproduced fabric.  It is about 45 minutes away from Greenfield where I live.  We heard it was quite impressive. As we drove up, there were 4 pickup trucks driving odd with cloth piled up 5′ up over the sides of the trucks. Just amazing!

There was a room – maybe 50 x 60′ – that had been full of cloth that was totally being given away.  Before there were stacks 7′ high of cloth throughout the whole room – it must have been quite the sight!!  Today was the second to last day so it was down to perhaps 400 rolls of free cloth by the time we got there.  It was amazing!! We took 5 rolls to use for fairs and also for window displays.  I also might be able to figure out how to use some of it in my art.  I am not sure if this was a one time thing or periodic – but wow – it is amazing!!

People had piles they werre sitting on while they waited to use the cart to take their cloth home.  One person must have had 250 rolls of cloth that she was sitting on while her partner got the truck or van ready.  There was one part of the room that had cloth being saved for someone – that stack of cloth was about 8′ high, 6′ deep and 20′ long.  It was covered and ready for someone to pick up. Just wild!!

Most of the 400 rolls left were variations of off-white and neutral colors in many different weaves – but I could see from the piles that were being protected that lots of bright colored fabric had already been chosen.  There was one roll that I would have liked to take but the roll was at least a foot deep when it was rolled (and very long) and we could never have carried it. In the hallway there were others sitting on their stacks while they too waited to use the carts.

What a wonderful service to the earth and to the community!!  Instead of this going to the dump or landfill, it went to theater companies, schools and artists who will put it all to great use.  Thank you so much – for me and for us all.  Thanks for stopping by!

<quote from Marionette> This month I am featuring one of my favorite online artists, Diane Clancy,  who also happens to be my teammate on VAST (Visual Artist Street Team) and WWAO (Worldwide Women Artists Online).  I recently asked her how she first heard about ACEOs?  ”I have been making ACEOs for about a year and a half.  Someone saw some of my art in my Etsy shop (an online store that sells only handmade goods)  and asked whether I created ACEOs – because they would be interested in buying some.  I had never heard of them at all! So I began to explore what they are and how to make them. They and a couple of other Etsy artists were kind enough to take the time to explain to me what Art Cards are, and these artists explained a lot of the possibilities of how to package them.” <end of quote>

Marionette then continues with the interview, some very kind words about me, my vibrant, colorful paintings and then shares some of my shops. You can see it online and connect to any of the links.  Thank you, Marionette!! Thank you for stopping by.  Thank you for being part of my life!!

Featured at Found Handmade

Monday, April 13th, 2009

In the last few days I have created 4 pastel ACEOs – it has been  a lot of fun.  After I painted them, then there is the putting them into digital form to market online.  That adds another whole element!!  Because I was scanning 6 ACEOs with similar colors, I think that is why I ran into so many problems … the colors all turned too much orange and I spent several hours trying to figure out how to deal with all that.

I had made 15 vibrant, colorful pastel paintings before and scanned them and I thought the color was more similar between the scan and the original ACEOs.  At last I found the only 1 of the 15 I still had – right in the place I had looked 8 times …  The color is slightly more vibrant than the original, but not that wholesale color switch …   Eventually I filtered the ACEOs and got them pretty close to the originals.  When Susan Elkin has time, I want to show her all of them and get her opinion … she is most helpful with those kinds of things.  You will be seeing the new ones in the next several days … and I will be offering both the originals and prints for sale.

Yesterday I was featured at Found Handmade. This blog features all sorts of finds from lots of different online shops – it is very cool.  Here is the Found Handmade Blog and this is the post where I and others from the ACEO Market on 1000 Markets are featured. There is lots of great merchandise that you can see (and maybe even buy) each day.

1000 Markets is a marketplace that has Markets (instead of teams as Etsy does).  So there are individual merchants and then markets … which are merchants who come together with a common purpose ..  geography, type product, method of making items or styles of art.  The ACEO Market, which recently accepted me, is a market that showcases … guess what … ACEOs … Art Cards (2  1/2 x 3 1/2″) that are a fantastic, affordable way to collect an artist’s artwork.  I highly recommend them.  At the ACEO Market (http://www.1000markets.com/groups/aceos) you can see lots of different, unique ACEOS!!  You can see lots of my vibrant, colorful paintings at Diane’s 1000 Markets (http://dianeclancy.1000markets.com).  Please stop by!

Kelly Turner has featured me on her blog “Kelly M. Turner, It Comes from Within.”  Some of what she said about me is “(Diane) has been such an inspiration to me in assisting me in connecting with other artist. … She was so patient with me and gave me link after link, and contact after contact.” Kelly continues “Diane is an exceptional lady, she has helped me continually in giving me sound wisdom in getting my artwork to other artists and colleagues of hers. Her expertise in this field is dynamic.”  This is quite a lovely testimonial to me! Kelly says even more about me and you can read it on her blog.  Kelly has featured one of one vibrant, colorful paintings.

Please check it out! Kelly Turner’s blog is here and here is the post that I am included in! Please check it out!  Thank you, Kelly! Here is some of what Kelly says about her own creative process “My paintings reshape the process of the subconscious mind. I usually visualize and characterize the thought process before it gradually evolves to an idea. I have always been fascinated with nature and objects that enhance my focus. My method uses analogy and reality.” – very interesting!

Fostering and a Painting

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I would love if you would tell what you think and feel about this painting … I like the delicacy and colors in this one … and would love to hear what you think.

Today was the monthly Board meeting of the Fostering the Arts and Culture of Franklin County, MA.  It is very exciting to be part of a group that is growing the Creative Economy in this county.  Tomorrow night many artists in this county are also meeting together to work on talking about what we want out of a website.  It is all very exciting and it takes a lot of time sometimes.  I was quoted in an article I saw today at the meeting.  When I can, I will share that with you … I need to figure out if they would mind if I quote it extensively.

Thank you for stopping by! I would love to hear about you!!

Pastel ACEO and Spot Light

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

This is one of the vibrant, colorful pastel ACEOs that I created a couple of weeks ago.  I thought you would enjoy seeing it.  And an update on my life also.  I had mentioned that a very highly stressful event was promised to be over by last Friday afternoon at the latest. That didn’t happen.  Instead it has been dragged out for another week and a half.  I am not very happy about it … but there is nothing I can do to change that.  And I am doing much better at handling my stress now that the process has been started.  Thanks for all your support!!

Today I was featured in another Spot Light … this time with 2 of my images .. I am sure you recognize them if you are a regular reader.  This is a cool thing similar to a treasury at Etsy.

I would love to hear how you are doing and also how you deal with circumstances that are less than ideal.  Thank you for stopping by!

WWAO Collaborative Gallery and Swap

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

WWAO (Worldwide Women Artists Online) is a great group of women artists that I belong to.  We had an ATC swap this spring of 2009. ATC are the same as ACEOs … a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2″ piece of art.  ATC is the Art Trading Card … so that name gets used for when they are traded instead of sold.  That is partly why I have started calling them Art Cards, ACEO in my shops … I think that is a clearer name for these delightful little works of art!

The WWAO Collaborative Gallery shows the incredible work of many talented artists from WWAO.  This gallery (http://wwaogallery.blogspot.com) showcases ATCs from 16 artists in an incredible diversity of styles and mediums.  It is worth taking the time to look through these posts …  I know I have enjoyed seeing lots of work from one artist, each after the other … in some deep way it taught me something I can’t verbalize yet … about both the continuity and range a single artist can have and still have her style look coherent.

WWAO Collaborative Gallery

WWAO on the site says “Worldwide Women Artists is an international collective of women artists showing and selling our work through the worldwide web. As women artists, we give birth to our ideas in a variety of styles and media. We embrace the diversity of each other’s work, celebrating the joy of creating our art and sharing it with the world. Here is the post about my art …. (http://wwaogallery.blogspot.com/2009/03/wwao-atc-swap-diane-clancy.html).  You can see 13 pastels that I did for this ATC Swap.  I hope you enjoy them!!  I am planning to do more – particularly as a way to be able to sell originals at an affordable price.  I have also made prints of these if there is one that just grabs you and you just MUST have!  All my print ACEOs are $6 – so let me know if you are interested.

Featured in a Spot Light

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Today I was featured in a Spot Light on Made By Hand. The site is Made By Hand – and another time I will share more about it.  Recently I have been accepted by the ACEO Market on 1000 Markets … and someone there made this Spot Light and included me.  I think it looks pretty cool.  They also have a script that you can use to insert the Spot Light into your site or blog.  I had never heard of this site before today but I made a profile and shop there and I will share these links sometime soon. (There is more about 1000 Markets below.)

Spot Light of ACEO Market

1000 Markets is a shop for people selling unique items.  Part of what they say is “Our merchants are small, independent, artisan businesses built by people who love their craft. They make and sell unique products, based on their own vision, personality and story.”  Unlike many of the other online shops, you have to be accepted by them to open a shop.  Anyone can join, look, comment and buy …  If you want to open a shop, you create a shop with at least 5 items and ask them to approve you. Here is my shop if you would to peek at it … Diane’s 1000 Markets (http://dianeclancy.1000markets.com). You can see lots of my vibrant, colorful paintings there!
