Saturday, March 21st, 2009

I like to enter the 2 Things Challenge each week. This week is Window / View. This is my entry for Window & View.   I hope you like it!!  This entry is a combination of 2 of my styles of digital work … I like the idea of looking through a window into one of bubblescapes.  This is one of my vibrant, colorful paintings  – you can see lots more at my Etsy Shop.  Last week’s entries have not been put up yet. Anyone can join in, and I hope you give it a try!! We would love more people playing with us! Details are at this link above.

Featured in a Spot Light

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Today I was featured in a Spot Light on Made By Hand. The site is Made By Hand – and another time I will share more about it.  Recently I have been accepted by the ACEO Market on 1000 Markets … and someone there made this Spot Light and included me.  I think it looks pretty cool.  They also have a script that you can use to insert the Spot Light into your site or blog.  I had never heard of this site before today but I made a profile and shop there and I will share these links sometime soon. (There is more about 1000 Markets below.)

Spot Light of ACEO Market

1000 Markets is a shop for people selling unique items.  Part of what they say is “Our merchants are small, independent, artisan businesses built by people who love their craft. They make and sell unique products, based on their own vision, personality and story.”  Unlike many of the other online shops, you have to be accepted by them to open a shop.  Anyone can join, look, comment and buy …  If you want to open a shop, you create a shop with at least 5 items and ask them to approve you. Here is my shop if you would to peek at it … Diane’s 1000 Markets (http://dianeclancy.1000markets.com). You can see lots of my vibrant, colorful paintings there!

Diane's 1000 Markets

Diane’s 1000 Markets

1000 Markets is a marketplace that has Markets (instead of teams as Etsy does).  So there are individual merchants and then markets … which are merchants who come together with a common purpose ..  geography, type product, method of making items or styles of art.  The ACEO Market, which recently accepted me, is a market that showcases … guess what … ACEOs … Art Cards (2  1/2 x 3 1/2″) that are a fantastic, affordable way to collect an artist’s artwork.  I highly recommend them.  At the ACEO Market (http://www.1000markets.com/groups/aceos) you can see lots of different, unique ACEOS!!  Please stop by!

If you are a customer, this a great way to see more art,  If you are a seller, I recommend 1000 Markets as a useful place to sell!  I hope you enjoyed hearing about these places and maybe even got some ideas for yourself! Thank you for coming by!

Featured at SlogBite – A New Directory

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I am thrilled that I am the Featured site of the week at SlogBite!!  Each week they choose one site or blog that is in their directory that they feel is excellent!  I am delighted to be chosen like this!! Their slogan is “At SlogBite …. ‘See the BEST before the rest’”!  Thank you, Mel!!  Here is the link to my being featured!

SlogBite is a fairly new directory of blogs and sites that was launched in March 2009. It is easy to list your blog at SlogBite in appropriate categories.  I have listed this blog in several different categories since I post about various issues.  You can go to http://www.slogbite.com/entry-form to enter your blog into the directory. If you do, I would love it if you mentioned you found out about SlogBite through Diane Clancy’s Art, http://dianeclancy.com/blog. It just lets them know that I help let others know about this directory and I think sometimes they promote sites that help get more great sites listed there!

Featured at SlogBite – a Directory of Blogs and Sites

Mel was kind enough to write: ““This Week’s Featured” site is authored by a multi talented and tireless artist whose paintings are said to uplift and inspire the people who visit her site. Believe me, I can attest to that. Hers is the complete art site. She covers many topics including art marketing, licensing, exhibits, causes, and many different styles of painting. In fact she legitimately belongs to 25 SlogBite categories, and can probably join many more. It is the “complete” art site. It is a must see whether you just enjoy art or if you are a budding artist who wants to learn the ropes. Welcome to ‘Diane Clancy’s Art Blog.’”

On the sidebar here in this blog you can find a widget with a direct link to SlogBite .. also it shows which categories I am currently listed in. It is a ways down … so keep going to find it … it is purple in the middle.

I encourage you to check it out – they have great categories … lots of different ones that are unusual for a directory.  Great to find sites there and great to sign up (free) to be listed so more people can find YOUR blog!  Thank you for coming by!

Wood, Stress and Names

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

It has been a real treat to hear the similarity … and differences from around the  world about “knock on wood.”  Here are a couple of examples …  Irene (Netherlands) says, “‘touch wood’ … and look around for some wood to knock on.”

Deb (Australia) says, “I remember reading somewhere that the concept of touching wood is based on the cross of Jesus and goes back in ancient Norse mythology to Odin’s (Woden’s) tree, which some say preceded both the crucifix, and Druidism which worshipped the tree-gods, in concept. “  One cool thing about this is that is goes well with yesterday’s image also.

Max (Portugal) says, “But for us knocking on wood is to chase bad luck, or to ask the Higher Forces to prevent something bad from happening. And it makes sense, become when you do it you will stir the energies and bad spirits (that many times help bad things to happen) are chased away (just like clapping in Tibete).”

Thank you everyone who shared about this … it is worth reading the comments from yesterday!  Also, the comments are incredible about naming that image … (I am still processing them and loved them all!! – I will choose a name … I do go back and change them in the post when I have decided.) I am having so much fun hearing your comments about what you see in my paintings and the names you are drawn to share, that I am going to ask you for more thoughts and ideas!

Thank you also to everyone who reminded me that it is my response to the events going on, not the events themselves that are the problem.  I know that in my head … and usually also do a pretty good job of putting it into action … it is just during the last 7 weeks the accumulated effects of the circumstances have broken through my usual good habits. Especially with 2 delays in the process.

I keep telling myself that this is a spiritual growth spurt  .. and I will be stronger out of it all … I know that is true, it is just very unpleasant and the stress (or my reaction to the stress) has wrecked havoc on my body.  My back is a little better (went for a short walk outside) … but tomorrow will be here soon and then it will be over.  And then I will look at myself and say, “how silly, how human, let’s do better next time … and let’s hope this particular next time never happens again!!”

I am thrilled to be featured at SlogBite this week … I will write more tomorrow about that.  Here is the link to see what Mel said about me!! Wow and thank you!

I would love to hear how you are doing and also hear more on how you deal with circumstances that are less than ideal.  Thank you for stopping by!

Day of Rest and a Name

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

My back is better today than the wild pain I was in yesterday.  I am lucky that I have a little back massage machine that has been helping too.  In several more days the issue that is greatly aggravating my stress level will (hopefully, knock on wood) be over.  (In English, in the US, the comment “knock on wood” is a way of not tempting fate by being overly confident … it means “let’s hope anyway, and I am not taking any chances!”  I would love to hear if you have ever heard of this before (from people outside the US) and if it makes any sense to you. Do you have your own phrases with a similar intent?  I would love it if you have ideas of a name for this vibrant, colorful painting.  I think it is cool.

US Tendy

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Thanks for all your support to rest … I have mainly been puttering and not being super-productive and letting things drift further … I know my health (and sanity) are more important. Awhile ago someone left me a message (on a ning site) that if I made a US Trendy page, they would feature me on their blog.  I have no idea if that person will follow through, but the other day I decided to add content to my US Trendy page.

US Trendy

Diane’s US Trendy

It is cool – they have a little window where they rotate the last 5 images one uploaded … and so you can see those 5 images without going into one’s portfolios.  I made 3 porfolios there .. to show a representative sample of my work. And I created one blog post there to make it easy for people to see more of my work in other places.

Today when I stopped by to take a snapshot to show you, it mentioned that the shop is now open.  I have not explored that at all. The site seems focused on Fashion and Art (as 2 separate categories).  It is free and I do not know much more about it yet … but it seems like an interesting site … so I am sharing it with you!

Thank you for stopping by! I would love to hear about you!!
