Two Things Challenge – Hot & Cold

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I like to enter the 2 Things Challenge each week. This week is Hot / Cold. This is my entry for Hot & Cold  – In this culture certain colors are hot and others are cold!  I hope you like it!!  As I was creating this vibrant, colorful painting, I was working and reworking the colors.  In the program I use, change one variable and everything else changes in relationship to it … sort of like life! Here are the entries for last week’s Many / Few. Anyone can join in, and I hope you give it a try!! We would love more people playing with us! Details are at this link above.

Featured in Town Crier, Greenfield

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Today I was featured in the Town Crier, Greenfield, MA.  It is THE front page article and is in full color!  Susan Elkin is also interviewed and featured.  Pretty exciting!!  I am quoting you the beginning of the article with a link to read the rest ….  Here is the rest of the article.  This is the online version … but on the print version, it is big and lovely too!

<beginning of the quote>Diane Clancy, Susan Elkin and fellow Artists of Franklin County have been presenting their signature ArtProject Window Exhibit, or AWE, in downtown Greenfield storefront windows for the past three years with positive feedback from residents, visitors and shop owners.

“People in town say it makes such a difference,” said Diane.  “It really ties our community together and we want to broaden the base.”

Artists of Franklin County meet often to hold artist presentations, various discussion groups and work on other projects like the constantly expanding AWE. AWE can be seen three times a year during the spring, summer and fall at over 30 locations in the area. Last year’s exhibit featured artwork by Greenfield High School students, works by mental health patients will be a focus of interest this year.  <end of the quote>

Butterfly Deva and Free GiveAway

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Today this Butterfly Deva told me her name before I finished creating her .. she just jumped right out and said, “Me, Me, Me!!!” Wonderful feedback I got yesterday regarding creating different vibrant, colorful paintings and naming them! Today was a rough day so this will be short and sweet – I hope you like this deva! (nature spirit)

Naming the Deva

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I hope you are enjoying my playing around and creating different vibrant, colorful paintings! As you may know if you have read my blog before, I ask a painting its name to listen to what it is expressing.  (It is true, sometimes in a series I know what I want the name to be ahead of time – like my Conundrum series.)  For individual images I ask and pay attention to what the energy of the painting is communicating to me.

Tree Goddess

After I finished this digital painting, when I first looked at it, I saw eyes peering out from the other side of space and time … I thought it was going to be about the thinning between the layers of reality. But as I quieted down, she spoke to me very clearly … those eyes belong to the tree, not to the other side.  Her stature very quickly indicated that she is a goddess, a deva of nature.  She was very authoritative in how she spoke her name, with her hands on her hips … so I delightedly conferred it upon her!  Tree Goddess!  Do you name your work? How do you name it?  What do you think of artists’ names on their pieces?
